Spring is here, the evenings are lighter for longer and there’s so much to look forward to in Spring/Summer 2017!
We’re already in Q2 of 2017, so how are you getting on with your sustainability goals for this year? Have you made any adjustments around your office to start you off? Don’t worry if you’re not where you thought you’d be by now, we’re here to help.
Was one of your business objectives to take steps towards becoming more sustainable?
Now is a good time to take a look at how it’s going and decide on some quick improvements that you could make.
When you have a huge number of tasks to fit in and not enough hours in the day, it’s easy to get so wrapped up in your daily workload that you don’t step back and take the time to reflect on and evaluate how you’re doing.
So don’t put it off any more, we can do it together. An office spring clean, clean desk and decluttered workspace can help you to focus more effectively on the tasks at hand and become more productive going forwards. Don’t know where to start?
Declutter Your Workspace & Get Organised To Increase Productivity
The environment you work in has an affect on how you work and how much you get done while you’re there. A distracting, disorganised messy work environment can have a negative impact on productivity.
No one wants to work more hours than they need to when they could get organised, work less and make the most of the evenings. Is it time to save yourself some time by getting organised?
Do you have piles of paper in your in tray that you rarely need to access? Can you file it away or get two in trays? One for things you need to keep and the other for things you’re working on?
To avoid distractions and getting overwhelmed by backed up work, try to only keep relevant and active projects and papers on your desk. Take a look at how you prioritise your workload. Do you have a system of grouping together work depending on it’s importance or urgency?
Organise the order in which you need to get projects done by grouping tasks into:
Important and urgent
Urgent, but not necessarily important
Important, without urgency
Non-urgent, and not important
The same applies to emails, it can be very distracting to be concentrating only to have an email message pop up, don’t be afraid to disable pop ups and instead designate time to check emails throughout the day.
Made.com have come up with an attractive new range of products that will help you get organised and make you want to keep your workspace in order.
Another way to make your office feel more spacious is by clearing away stationery items that don’t get used often, so instead of keeping 20 pens, 4 note pads, a box of business cards and a hole punch on your desk, try putting the things you don’t use in a drawer.
It sounds simple but over time things can and do build up and this can make you less efficient. It takes much less time to stay organised than it does to search for something when you’re stressed and can’t find something that you need.
Olio and Freecycle make it easy for you to clear some space and get rid of things that you have lying around but no longer use. Can you recycle or upcycle old office furniture to make the space less cluttered, more practical and more appealing?
Brighten Up Your Office
What’s on the office walls? Can you get some new artwork or print off and frame some inspiring images or quotes that will brighten up the space and spur you on?
Think about positive changes you could make right now, what would make you happier and more productive at work? Take action now.
Once your workspace is looking fab and fresh you could make a start on the fridge, there’s no time like the present, ha ha!
We interviewed Olio about their sharing app that makes it super simple to upload photos of food and non food stuff that you no longer have a need for. People in your area can then contact you to collect it. So you don’t even have to pay for it to be taken away. Read our interview with Olio here.
