Our business was born out of risk taking behaviour. My sister Lou and I (Vix), ditched our day jobs to follow our dreams and went on the volunteering trip of a life time!
It was whilst travelling around Portugal wwoofing (volunteering on organic farms) that we had the time to reflect on what we wanted in life and the time to plan how to make it happen.
Before we quit our office jobs in London to head off wwoofing, we’d been lucky enough to have a plot at Alexandra Palace Allotments, that we shared with a lovely group of friends in North London, we no longer have our allotment but we have wonderful memories.
Over several years, we learnt how to grow all sorts of fruit and veg and made gorgeous food and wine with the produce. We loved being outdoors, getting our hands dirty, chilling out, cooking, eating and drinking over great conversation.
When we arrived in Portugal, we discovered that wwoofing combines all of these interests, from preparing and sharing great home grown food, to getting stuck into any tasks that needed to be done, getting to know new people from all over the world along the way and living together in communes.
We learnt so many new skills, from building tree houses, to painting and putting up tipis, safari tents and yurts, it was so much fun!
We love the idea of blue sky thinking but I think green fingers thinking is more our style!
After several months abroad, we travelled back to Blighty and returned to our home town of Lancaster to launch the business we had been dreaming about. Our planet friendly partnership! Bough to Beauty Bespoke was born.
Join Our Newsletter To Discover Simple Steps To Make Your Business More Sustainable
Being a green business will help the environment and could improve your company’s chances of success. Sustainable business is about meeting three key requirements; being environmentally friendly, considerate towards society (especially those affected by your business), and profitable so the business can survive, thrive and act responsibly whilst making a positive impact.
It isn’t about writing a policy and filing it away to gather dust, it’s about taking action. A sustainable business should have these values ingrained in their business strategy and daily decision making. Do you run a sustainable business?
